Mupirocin is a topical antibiotic derived from Pseudomonas fluorescens, widely recognised for its effectiveness in treating secondary bacterial infections, particularly those involving the skin.1,2

MECHANISM OF ACTION AND EFFECTIVENESS

Mupirocin works by inhibiting bacterial protein and RNA synthesis through reversible binding to bacterial isoleucyl-tRNA synthetase. This unique mechanism ensures minimal cross-resistance with other antibiotics.1
