The conjunctiva has two portions: The bulbar portion, which covers the eye's surface, and the tarsal portion, which covers the eyelids. Normally transparent, it can turn pink or red when inflamed, hence the colloquial term ‘pink eye’.1 

Most cases of paediatric conjunctivitis are caused by either bacterial or viral infections or allergies. Bacterial conjunctivitis (50%-70%) are the leading cause in children.1
