Dr Vythilingum is a distinguished psychiatrist with extensive qualifications and experience. She earned her MBChB (cum laude) from the University of Natal in 1997, followed by a DCH in 1999 and an FCPsych in 2004, both from the South African Colleges of Medicine. She completed her MMed (Psych) (cum laude) at the University of Stellenbosch in 2004.
Dr Vythilingum's career began as an intern at King Edward VIII Hospital, Durban, in 1998, and she later served at RK Khan Hospital for her community service. She worked as a research fellow and psychiatrist at the Medical Research Council's Anxiety Disorders Unit, Stellenbosch University, and held various roles at Groote Schuur Hospital and the University of Cape Town (UCT). Since 2009, she has been an Honorary Lecturer in Psychiatry at UCT and continues to practice privately.
