Impetigo is a common skin infection caused by bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes. Most common in children, it can also affect adults. Impetigo is characterised by red sores that can appear anywhere on the body, but they are most common on the face, arms, and legs. The sores may be filled with fluid and eventually crust over. Highly contagious, impetigo can spread through direct contact or contact with contaminated objects.
