Schizophrenia is one of the major causes of disability worldwide. It is a chronic and disabling psychiatric disorder associated with high human and financial costs. The disorder typically starts in young adulthood. Patients living with schizophrenia have an increased risk of cardiovascular disease as well as suicide and a reduced life expectancy (~10-years).
