Dr Halamka is a former Professor of Emergency Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and was the executive director of its Health Technology Exploration Centre, in addition to serving as Beth Israel's chief information officer for over 20 years. He has led Mayo Clinic’s digital health and artificial intelligence projects since January of this year.
Dr Halamka is preparing for a forthcoming sea change in the way we extract value from health information: the decentralisation of data. While the electronic health record (EHR) and the data that physicians feed it have been touted as the gold standard for clean, quality data, healthcare leaders must begin planning to make the most of burgeoning alternate sources of data including wearable devices, telemedicine sessions and social determinants of health.
With this new opportunity to extract data and deliver insights comes an equally impressive challenge: how can healthcare leaders tie disparate information together in a way that improves patient outcomes, physician workflow and health system profitability?
Tune in to this InterSystems podcast, hosted by Jack Murtha and Tom Castles, to discover which new data sources you should be keeping an eye on, how to cut through the hype and identify the sources that bring the greatest tangible value, who needs to be at the table when putting together a successful data strategy, and much, much more.
